Wheat rate: At what rate did you buy wheat or flour recently? Whatever the price, it is certain that you must have faced increased prices every time. Meaning that roti (bread) is getting expensive. This is happening because the price of wheat (wheat price hike) has reached the sky.
The Union Agriculture Ministry has said that this time the farmers have got the price of wheat at Rs 2518 per quintal. If seen, its maximum price in the country has reached Rs 50 per kg. At the same time, the average price is Rs 30.9 and the minimum price is Rs 22 per kg. The Price Monitoring Division of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs gave information about the retail price of wheat in the country on 27 October.
How far has the price of wheat reached in the markets?
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the wholesale price of wheat (gehun mandi bhav) in Karnataka was Rs 3302 per quintal, which is 8.78 percent less than last year.
In the same period of the year 2023, this price was Rs 3619.69 per quintal. At the same time, the wholesale price of wheat (Maharashtra Wheat Rate) in Maharashtra this year is Rs 2939.82 per quintal, which is 14.79 percent less than the same period last year. Last year the price of wheat was Rs 3450.22 per quintal.
However, if we talk about the national average, the price of wheat (gehun ka bhav) has increased by 5.19 percent compared to last year. This year the price of wheat on a national average is Rs 2517 per quintal, whereas last year it was only Rs 2393.43 per quintal.
How much does flour cost?
According to the Price Monitoring Division, the maximum price of wheat flour was Rs 65 per kg on August 18, 2024. At the same time, the average price was recorded at Rs 35.78 and the minimum price at Rs 28 per kg. Variation in the price of flour has been observed in different states.
For example, flour is being sold at Rs 32 per kg in Delhi, Rs 41.5 per kg in Jammu and Kashmir, Rs 33.33 per kg in Haryana, and Rs 43.53 per kg in Maharashtra. This variation is based on the demand-supply of the location and local market.
What is the arrival of wheat?
This year, the arrival of wheat is seen to be less in most of the mandis (taja mandi bhav) of the country. The Ministry of Agriculture has analyzed the data from 1 to 14 August and said that the arrival of wheat is 13 percent less compared to the same period last year. This year, 4,78,658 tonnes of wheat came for sale in the first two weeks of August, whereas in the same period last year this figure was 5,51,728 tonnes.
This arrival has been recorded in the mandis of various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Haryana (haryana mandi bhav), Punjab, and Telangana. It is clear from these figures that there is a shortage of wheat in the mandis, which can also affect the price of flour.
The highest arrival of wheat in this market was-
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this year the highest arrival of wheat has been in the mandis of Uttar Pradesh (uttar pradesh gehu mandi bhav). 2,78,144 tonnes of wheat arrived here, which is 9 percent more than last year.
In the same period of 2023, 2,54,141 tonnes of wheat came for sale in Uttar Pradesh. This state is the largest wheat producer in the country and a high quantity of wheat is supplied to the mandis here.
However, the arrival of wheat in Madhya Pradesh, the country's second largest wheat producing state, has decreased by 26 percent compared to last year. 1,65,347 tonnes of wheat was sold in the mandis of Madhya Pradesh (MP Mandi Wheat Rate), whereas in the same period last year this figure was 2,22,931 tonnes. This shortage is a matter of concern for the farmers, as it may affect their income.
A huge drop has been observed in the arrival of wheat (Rajasthan Wheat Mandi Rate) in Rajasthan as well. In the first two weeks, 12,870 tonnes of wheat came for sale in this state, which is 57 percent less than last year. In the same period of 2023, 29,703 tonnes of wheat had arrived here. This situation has arisen due to the decrease in production in Rajasthan, due to which farmers are suffering losses.
Apart from this, there has been a huge decrease in the arrival of wheat in the mandis of Maharashtra. Only 5,289 tonnes of wheat came for sale in the first two weeks of August, which was 19,204 tonnes in the same period last year. This is a decline of 72 percent, which reflects the challenges of agriculture in the state.
