Regarding this, the team of the Customs Department is keeping a close watch on the passengers. In this sequence, the Customs Department has arrested a smuggler with a diamond studded gold necklace.

Delhi Crime News: The Customs Department has arrested a smuggler at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. Customs officials said that a passenger has been arrested at Terminal-3 on charges of smuggling a diamond-studded gold necklace.

Customs officials suspected the passenger on February 12. After this, he was checked. During the investigation, a diamond-studded gold necklace weighing 40 grams was recovered from the passenger's bag and during his search, the value of which is estimated to be around Rs 6.08 crore.

The Customs Department said on the social media platform 'X' that the precious jewellery has been seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, and the passenger was arrested under Section 104. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Gold coins worth Rs 7.8 crore seized

Earlier, on February 5, custom officers had seized gold coins worth about Rs 7.8 crore from two passengers who had come from Milan at the IGI airport. Both of them were residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

During the investigation, no suspicious object was found in their bags, but when they were searched, gold coins were found hidden in special belts worn under their clothes. 

A total of 10.092 kg of gold coins were seized. The Customs Department has taken these two accused into custody and started investigation.

400 grams of gold recovered from Uzbek citizens in December

At the same time, in December 2024, customs officers arrested three Uzbek citizens from Almaty, Kazakhstan, who were carrying gold hidden inside their bodies. 

After suspecting the behavior of the passengers, they were personally searched. 

During interrogation, they confessed that they had hidden pieces of solid gold in their body cavity (rectum). They voluntarily took out a total of 439 grams of gold, which was confiscated by the customs department.
